To fulfill the mission and vision of Delta Sigma Phi’s Next Era, our flagship programs are being developed into chapter-level retreats that strengthen learning, leadership, and brotherhood. The Alpha Gamma chapter at Georgia Institute of Technology was the second chapter this fall to pilot the Membership Experience Chapter Retreat on leadership, an emerging component of our Pursue Education pillar and our continued effort to deliver one of the best fraternity education models in the nation.
This Membership Experience Retreat on leadership, inspired by our flagship program Leadership Institute (LI), brings chapter members together to learn about and apply the 5 Practices of Exemplary Leadership. The practices help members explore how to lead with integrity, create a shared vision, take initiative, build strong teams, and celebrate the strengths and achievements within their chapter.
Hosted at Sojourn Adventures in Johns Creek, Georgia, 18 members of the Alpha Gamma chapter participated in this two-day experience. Members attended Friday evening’s program to explore the 5 Practices and returned to campus for the night. Participants came back Saturday morning for team-building activities and tactical laser tag facilitated by camp staff. To conclude the retreat, the chapter shared a meal and took time to Encourage the Heart by lifting up the efforts, growth, and leadership shown by their brothers. They then reflected on what they learned and what they hope to bring back to chapter life.
“The chapter retreat was an awesome way to discuss a lot of things not brought up in casual conversation with brothers. It encouraged deep reflection on how we want to change in our Fraternity going forward, and provided practical, actionable steps on how to change. It had fun team-building exercises too, and allowed us to bond over activities we probably wouldn't have done otherwise.”

Participants at Alpha Gamma’s retreat represented members from all pledge classes and included two former presidents. Notably, Carter Daniels, a recent transfer student from the Alpha Nu chapter at Oglethorpe University, was in attendance. He shared that “This retreat brought me closer to my new brothers. As a new transfer from another chapter, this opportunity to grow with my new chapter helped me build new bonds and gave me new insights into the identity of the chapter. I think we will take the things we learned back to our chapter and apply them in the upcoming semester.” (Carter Daniels, Oglethorpe ‘22).
Chapters interested in participating in a Membership Experience Retreat in Spring 2026 should fill out an interest form. These retreats continue to strengthen the Pursue Education pillar and reinforce Delta Sigma Phi’s leadership in fraternity education and student development.
