Part of what it means to be a Delta Sig is to serve and honor your communities in moments that are bigger than any one chapter. In solidarity with the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the Delta Omega chapter at Cleveland State University partnered with the FBI Cleveland Citizens Academy Alumni Association (FBICLECAAA) to do just that for the organization’s Flags for Honor event.

For the third year running, brothers of Delta Omega volunteered with Flags for Honor. They helped set up over 500 American flags at Edgewater Park in Cleveland, each one dedicated to honoring both active and fallen FBI agents, active and reserve U.S. military personnel, veterans, law enforcement officers, firefighters, medical professionals, healthcare providers, and many other heroes across the nation. With this year marking the 25th anniversary of September 11, the sight of 500 flags lining the park carried extra weight for everyone involved.

The chapter’s relationship with FBICLECAAA began after Chapter President Aveon Moore, Cleveland State ‘23, completed the FBI Student Academy, and Flags for Honor has since become one of the events the chapter most looks forward to each year.

“The event means a lot to not only us, but the whole community who comes out for the ceremony on 9/11,” said Aveon Moore ‘23, Cleveland State chapter president.

Beyond the work itself, the brothers have had the chance to spend time with active and retired FBI members and their families, and hear their stories from years on the job.

Delta Omega's continued involvement with Flags for Honor is a clear reflection of Delta Sig's Embrace Service pillar in action, a chapter choosing, on its own, to show up for its local community in a moment that means something far beyond campus.
