On February 26, a group of Denver alumni came together to recognize and celebrate David A. Eason, Colorado State '91, whose decades of service have left a lasting mark on Delta Sigma Phi.
Tom Cycyota, Illinois State '77, Senior Philanthropy Officer of the Delta Sigma Phi Foundation and former National President, reflected on Eason’s extraordinary commitment to the Denver Alumni Association. For more than forty years, Eason has been the driving force behind the group. He organized and sustained the association, published its newsletter, led annual fundraising efforts, and served as its steady center through generations of alumni.
Eason’s dedication to the Fraternity extends well beyond Denver. Initiated at Colorado State University in 1991, he later returned to serve as a chapter advisor for his home chapter and went on to advise the chapter at Northern Colorado University. His mentorship has helped shape the experience of countless undergraduate members.
Following a twenty-year career in the U.S. Army, Eason transitioned into work as an editor of technical books, a role that would later prove invaluable to the Fraternity. In retirement, he pursued a certification in Registered Therapeutic Horsemanship. Today, he volunteers his time training horses that provide gentle, therapeutic rides for children with special needs, improving lives far beyond the Fraternity.
Eason has also played a critical role in preserving Delta Sigma Phi’s history. Working alongside Fraternity Historian and Former National President Loren Mall, Kansas State '58, he has lent his professional editing expertise to the Chronicles of Delta Sigma Phi, 1899–1999. The first of six planned volumes was published in 2005 and has been widely praised for both its depth and polish. While the research and writing are complete, Eason continues to dedicate countless hours to preparing the remaining volumes for publication, ensuring the Fraternity’s story is preserved with care and precision.
Executive Director Phillip Rodriguez, Illinois State '03, attended the Denver gathering to join in honoring Eason, alongside Foundation Trustee Tim Gentry, Missou '81, and his wife, Ezra, among others. Mall noted that few volunteers have contributed as much meaningful time and effort to Delta Sigma Phi as Eason.
During the event, Cycyota presented Eason with the Executive Director Award. In doing so, he highlighted a remarkable distinction.
“You are the only member who has received this rare award twice, each time under different Executive Directors and National Presidents. That alone speaks to the lasting impact of your work and the standard you continue to set for Delta Sigma Phi.”
For David Eason, recognition may not be the goal. Still, his lifelong commitment to service, mentorship, and stewardship of the Fraternity’s history stands as a powerful example of what it means to give back.
