A National Commitment to Civic Engagement
From April 10–12, nearly 300 Delta Sigma Phi brothers came together across the country for a unified purpose: to give back. Through coordinated citywide events in 10 communities, the Fraternity brought its Embrace Service pillar to life, reinforcing a commitment to civic engagement that extends far beyond a single weekend.
Brothers representing 26 chapters participated in projects in Austin, Birmingham, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis, Lexington, Madison, Philadelphia, and the Bay Area. Each location partnered with local organizations to address tangible needs, from environmental restoration to food insecurity and community beautification.
In Indianapolis, more than 75 brothers from five chapters collaborated with the Indianapolis Parks Department at Ellenberger Park on the city’s east side. Volunteers mulched playgrounds, cleared courts, removed invasive plants, and refreshed shared community spaces. Among those serving was alumnus Bill Beck, Phi 1991, who joined undergraduate members for the day.
“This day of service in Indianapolis was a wonderful opportunity to connect with current actives from chapters across Indiana,” Beck shared. “As the only alumnus present, I did not feel out of place. The men treated me like a brother. I would encourage alumni to take part, not only to give back to their communities, but to reconnect with the reason we continue to support our Fraternity.”
Brotherhood in Action Through Service
That sense of connection was felt across the country, with alumni joining undergraduate members in multiple cities and reinforcing that service continues well beyond the collegiate experience.
For many participants, the weekend highlighted how central service is to Delta Sigma Phi.
“I had so much fun with my brothers at our National Day of Service,” one participant shared. “It was rewarding for the community and fulfilling personally. Having a positive impact on my local community is a foundational part of our Fraternity experience.”
Another member emphasized the broader impact: “Delta Sig Day of Service is a fantastic way for brothers across the country to come together and make a tangible difference. It is a chance to get out, make an impact, and live our values.”
Members of Zeta Lambda at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology reflected, “Events like these are important to us, and we are proud that our continued involvement is helping our communities.”
Embrace Service as a Lifelong Commitment
While the citywide events served as anchors for the weekend, many chapters also organized additional service efforts in their own communities. Together, these efforts demonstrate that Embrace Service is not limited to a single initiative or date, but is an ongoing commitment to civic engagement.
This year’s Day of Service weekend showcased what is possible when brothers unite around a shared purpose. Across cities and generations, Delta Sigma Phi members demonstrated that service remains a defining part of the Fraternity experience and a lasting connection that continues well beyond graduation.
