Delta Sig Hosts First Chapter Retreat at Kansas State

Delta Sigma Phi Headquarters has successfully turned one of our flagship programs into a chapter-level retreat!

The Leadership Institute (LI) has helped create the next generation of leaders for over three decades. This five-day, immersive program brings together members from across the country to engage in individual and team exercises, allowing participants to push their leadership skills to the next level.

Presented at the 67th Convention, our flagship programs would be developed into chapter-level retreats. The Alpha Upsilon chapter at Kansas State University was the first to pilot the Membership Experience Chapter Retreat this fall. Taking place at Rock Springs Ranch in Junction City, Kansas, 27 members of Alpha Upsilon attended this overnight retreat. During the weekend, brothers spent time learning about the 5 Principles of Exemplary Leadership, exploring ways to bring their leadership skills to their chapter, campus, and community, and completing the two-story ropes course.

“This was a great way to learn about leadership and an opportunity to grow as a group alongside each other.”

Participants were largely from the chapter’s fall new member class and were able to build their connections more throughout the retreat. Outside of the classroom, participants enjoyed playing basketball and building a bonfire.

Based on in-person feedback and survey results, the retreat attendees found the Encourage the Heart session the most impactful. This session provides members with a time to reflect and thank a brother who has made an impact on their chapter experience so far. They tapped a brother who “encouraged them to Model the Way” and “Challenge the Process,” “has made them laugh,” “who they look up to,” and “who they will never forget.”

“Allowing us to feel the gratitude from our brothers encouraged me to keep going, knowing that I’m making an impact.”

The Alpha Gamma chapter at Georgia Tech will be the next chapter to participate in a Membership Experience Chapter Retreat  this fall. If your chapter is interested in participating in a retreat this spring, please reach out to denhart@deltasig.org.
