This February, the Gamma Rho Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi stepped off campus and into a professional environment for a chapter retreat centered on one of our core pillars: Launch Careers.
Chapter career retreats are designed with a simple philosophy: brotherhood should prepare men not just for graduation, but for life after college. When we remove members from their typical campus setting and immerse them in a professional space, we create an opportunity for focused growth, practical skill development, and meaningful connection.
At Gamma Rho’s retreat, members spent the evening developing tangible career skills, including resume refinement, time management strategies, and clarifying their professional pathways. Rather than generic advice, the emphasis was on actionable tools students could immediately apply.
One member reflected:
“This retreat brought forward ideas about my resume and career that I did not think about before, and I am walking away more determined than before to get where I want to be.”
Another shared:
“This was an amazing opportunity to prepare me for life after college — I can’t wait to use these skills to become a better man.”
A major highlight of the retreat was the opportunity to learn from Lance Rhine, corporate director of hotel operations and sales at Scott Enterprises, who joined the chapter to share insight into leadership, professional development, and navigating career growth in a competitive industry. His perspective gave members a real-world lens into what employers look for and how leadership skills translate into the workplace.
The impact was immediate; one member connected directly with Lance following the session to explore internship opportunities, reinforcing the power of creating intentional professional access for our chapters.
Beyond the educational component, hosting the retreat at a place of business elevated the experience. Members weren’t just talking about professionalism; they were surrounded by it. The environment itself reinforced expectations of excellence and possibility.
Of course, the retreat wasn’t only about resumes and career pathways. The off-campus setting provided time for meaningful brotherhood and connection. As one member shared:
“Spending time off campus with brothers gave our chapter an opportunity to bond and learn together.”
Another noted:
“We grew closer as a brotherhood while learning valuable life tools for our futures.”
This integration, professional growth alongside strengthened brotherhood, is exactly what the Launch Careers pillar represents. We believe that leadership development, career preparation, and relational depth are not separate experiences. They are intertwined.
The Gamma Rho Career Retreat demonstrates how Delta Sigma Phi continues to invest in experiences that prepare our members for success beyond the classroom; equipping them with confidence, clarity, and connection as they pursue their futures.
