The Iota Nu chapter of Delta Sigma Phi at SUNY Plattsburgh was recently recognized with the university’s Chapter of Excellence Award, one of the highest honors presented to fraternity and sorority organizations on campus.
Presented on April 26, the award recognizes organizations that demonstrate excellence in friendship, leadership, scholarship, and service throughout the academic year.
In addition to the chapter honor, Iota Nu President John Vilca ('24) was named the semester’s President of Excellence for his leadership and dedication to the fraternity during his term in office.
Under Vilca’s leadership, the chapter introduced a new scholarship accountability program designed to support members academically, expanded its community service efforts to levels not seen within the organization over the past five years, and encouraged stronger brotherhood through increased conversations surrounding mental health and personal well-being.
The chapter’s efforts this year reflected a strong commitment to both academic achievement and service while also creating a more connected and supportive brotherhood experience for members on campus.
By strengthening academic accountability, encouraging open conversations surrounding well-being, and increasing involvement within the local community, the chapter demonstrated the type of member experience Delta Sigma Phi strives to create through its focus on pursuing education, embracing service, and building lifelong relationships.
The chapter’s efforts reflect Delta Sigma Phi’s continued commitment to developing leaders, supporting academic success, and building meaningful fraternity experiences on campus.
Congratulations to the brothers of the Iota Nu Chapter and Brother Vilca on this outstanding recognition.
