Embracing service is paramount in Delta Sigma Phi’s mission to inspire and develop men of good character. Constantly, chapters across the country commit to philanthropic efforts to lift up those around them and better their communities, as well as themselves. The Gamma Alpha chapter at San Diego State University (SDSU) has recently shown why they’re a stellar example of the pillar to Embrace Service with the conclusion of their latest philanthropy week.
In the first week of October, the brothers of Gamma Alpha put on their fall 2026 Sailor’s Week, with the goal of supporting Rady Children’s Hospital. Through the five days of that week, the chapter managed to raise a staggering amount of over $42,000 to help make a difference for families and children in need.
“This past week was genuinely one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had during my time in Delta Sigma Phi,” said Oliver Chase (‘24), Gamma Alpha’s vice president of philanthropy.
The week consisted of five major events, such as powderpuff football, a talent show, and a live music night. Students from all across SDSU’s Greek community showed up and got involved, all for a good cause. The chapter saw involvement from eight sororities on campus, with the top three winners being Gamma Phi Beta, Pi Beta Phi, and Chi Omega. The brothers of Gamma Alpha deeply appreciated their energy, enthusiasm, and generosity.
None of this monumental week would have been possible without the work of the whole Gamma Alpha chapter.
“Our Chapter President, Tyler Callaghan (‘24), played a huge role throughout the planning process and helped oversee the execution of the week,” Chase remarked. “Our Community Service/Social Chair, Vincent Alexander (‘25), also went above and beyond, helping with event preparation, logistics, and making sure everything ran successfully.”
This accomplishment goes beyond just one week, however. This past spring, the Gamma Alpha chapter raised over $20,000 for Rady Children’s Hospital, which brings their total fundraising efforts for this year to more than $62,000. Even further beyond that, the chapter rallied together for Sailor’s Week last fall to raise funds for one of their own brothers in need. The entire chapter takes pride in knowing they’re able to make positive impacts of this scale.
“Looking back, this was honestly one of the best weeks of my life. Being able to lead something of this scale, watch months of planning finally come to life, and see our entire chapter rally around such an important cause was an experience I'll never forget… but what I'm most proud of is the impact we were able to make and the brotherhood that brought us together to make it happen,” said Chase
Congratulations to Gamma Alpha for another exceptional philanthropy week. The hard work, dedication, and commitment to a meaningful cause all reflect exactly what it means to live out the values of Delta Sigma Phi.
