Embrace Service
Serve our communities to create positive change
Service is one of the most visible ways Delta Sigma Phi members live out our values. Across the country, brothers dedicate their time, talents, and resources to causes that strengthen the communities where they live, learn, and work. From supporting local nonprofits and community organizations to organizing philanthropic events and volunteer projects, members are encouraged to use their leadership to create meaningful change.

As one of the four pillars of the Next Era Strategic Plan, Embrace Service reflects our commitment to developing men who understand that leadership comes with a responsibility to serve others. Through volunteerism, civic engagement, philanthropy, and community partnerships, members learn that even small acts of service can create a lasting impact.
Every chapter's approach to service looks different. Some chapters organize food drives, community cleanups, donation collections, and volunteer projects that address local needs. Others spend time serving meals at soup kitchens, supporting food pantries, making cards for children and seniors, assisting animal shelters, partnering with local nonprofits, or participating in community improvement efforts.
While the projects vary from campus to campus, they share a common purpose: using time, talent, and resources to strengthen the communities where Delta Sig members live and learn.
Why Service Matters
Strong communities are built by people who are willing to invest in them. Service challenges us to look beyond ourselves and consider how our actions can positively impact others. It develops empathy, strengthens leadership skills, and helps individuals better understand the needs and challenges facing their communities.
At Delta Sigma Phi, service is more than a volunteer activity. It is an expression of our values and a responsibility that comes with leadership. Through service and philanthropy, members learn that meaningful success is measured not only by personal achievement, but by the positive impact they have on the people and communities around them.
The Embrace Service pillar reflects our belief that fraternity should prepare men to be active citizens, engaged community members, and leaders who contribute to causes greater than themselves. By serving others, members strengthen their communities while developing the perspective, character, and sense of responsibility that define effective leadership.
The Civic Engagement Institute made me aware of how several parties, from policymakers to those who are impacted by the former's policies, work together to make change happen in their communities. I originally did not realize how much influence constituents and those who do not make policies have. Attending the CEI made me realize that they are relatively influential, leading to how I thought about civic life changing for the better.

The 2026 CEI completely changed how I view civic life. I came in expecting division, but instead saw real people working through complex systems and actually trying to collaborate and get things done. It gave me a much more grounded understanding of how leadership works in the real world.

Civic Engagement Institute helped me see what a lifetime of service can look like. Hearing from alumni who built careers around serving others gave me confidence that I was pursuing the right path.

Service in Action
Service is woven throughout the Delta Sigma Phi experience.
Each year, chapters across the country participate in hundreds of volunteer and philanthropic initiatives that address local needs and support causes that matter most to their communities. Whether organizing philanthropy events, supporting nonprofit organizations, raising funds for charitable causes, participating in community improvement projects, or volunteering alongside local partners, members continually find new ways to make an impact.
Service opportunities often extend beyond the chapter itself. Members regularly participate in campus-wide philanthropy initiatives, university service projects, community partnerships, and collaborations with other student organizations, expanding their impact while building connections across their campuses.
Many alumni continue this commitment long after graduation. Whether serving their communities, volunteering with Delta Sigma Phi, supporting local causes, participating in Day of Service projects, or helping facilitate programs like the Civic Engagement Institute, they continue to lead through service while strengthening the brotherhood.

Civic Engagement Institute
Our Flagship National Program for Service
The Civic Engagement Institute helps members explore the relationship between leadership, citizenship, and service.
Through educational experiences, discussion, and hands-on engagement, participants examine how individuals can create positive change within their communities. Members leave with a deeper understanding of civic responsibility and a greater appreciation for the role service plays in effective leadership.
The program challenges participants to think beyond themselves and consider how they can use their talents, influence, and resources to strengthen the communities around them. Alumni volunteers contribute as facilitators, mentors, and discussion leaders, helping participants connect civic engagement and service to real-world leadership experiences.
