Congratulations to Allen Schery, Long Island Post '69, whose newest book, The Energy Babel, is out now.
The book takes on a question Allen has spent years chasing from different angles: why things get built the way they do. This time the subject is global energy. Allen makes the case that the world's slow-moving energy transition has less to do with technology or geology than with financing and permitting, the invisible rules that decide what actually gets approved and built versus what stalls out on paper. It's a big, ambitious argument, and one that fits squarely into a body of work defined by asking why systems work the way they do.
Allen's writing career has always ranged widely, and this book is no exception. We featured him back in May for a career that has spanned anthropology, archaeology, museum design, and authorship, and The Energy Babel adds a new chapter to that list. It's also a fitting example of what Pursue Education looks like well past graduation: Allen has spent more than five decades treating learning as something that never really stops, and his latest book is proof that curiosity doesn't have an expiration date.
The photo above shows Allen with Jay Leno in the kitchen of Jay Leno's Garage. Leno insisted on the picture, telling Allen it would help sell his Corvette book.
Congratulations, Allen, on the new release, and on the Leno endorsement.
