Willard Douglas Gibbens Recognized by the Association of the U.S. Army

Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity is proud to share that brother and Command Sergeant Major W. Douglas (Doug) Gibbens has been selected to receive The Sergeant Major of the Army William G. Bainbridge Medal for contributions to the Army Noncommissioned Officer Corps.

Having served in the Army from 1966 until his retirement from the Army Reserve in 2001, Brother Gibbens is involved in many veteran organizations including Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve, as well as the Army Recruiting Command Grass Roots Council supporting recruiters in Indiana.

Within the AUSA Brother Gibbens has served the Indiana chapter in every leadership position including the Second Region Vice President for eight years and as the Region President from 2016 until 2020. He has also left a lasting impact on the Indiana chapter of AUSA through outstanding philanthropic service. His efforts include co-founding the annual golf outing fundraiser and helping to collect over 700 pounds of clothing and canned goods for homeless veterans and their families. He now serves as a Senior Fellow for educational programs.

This award is only the most recent in the many acknowledgements awarded to Brother Gibbens for his outstanding work in serving our country and his fellow veterans, such as his recent induction to the Indiana Military Hall of Fame. His long list of awards and decorations also include the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Indiana Distinguished Service Medal, the Major General James E. Rudder Award, and the Lt. General Timothy Maude Award for his lifetime of service to Soldiers and Army families.

Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity is very proud of Brother Gibbens’ lifetime of service and support to our men and women who serve and have served our great country.
